Classic Southern Green Beans with Bacon and Onions
Southern Style Green Beans
- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions:
In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the green beans to the skillet and toss to coat in the bacon grease.
Pour in the chicken broth, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the green beans are tender.
Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir in the cooked bacon before serving.
